🎵 Mermaids and Mythical Creatures v3.3.0 - A Song, a Sunrise to Fear, and a Sea of Companions
A new ability, a new survival system, distinct transformations for all three creatures, and seven quiet failures put to rest — several of which were hiding each other.
🎵 The Siren's Song — /mermaids song
- One burst, three effects, everything within 12 blocks.
- Hostiles are transfixed where they stand. Every player nearby is lifted with regeneration, you included. Passive sea life is drawn in and gathers around you.
- Rings of sound spread out with glints riding them. Must be transformed; 60s cooldown; gated behind
mermaids.song.
- Range, cooldown and all three durations are configurable — set any duration to 0 to drop that part and keep the rest.
🩸 Vampires Burn — Sunlight & Blood (off by default)
- Daylight burns. Shade, tree cover, underground and deep water all shelter you, and dawn creeps in gradually.
- The sun can't kill you — burning stops at a configurable floor. A wall that drives you indoors, not a death sentence for logging in at noon.
- Blood is fuel: drains on its own, every blow you land refills it, with its own meter.
- With Blood you regenerate and keep the night speed. Run dry and you lose both, and the sun bites twice as hard.
🌕 Werewolf & Vampire Transformation Effects
- The Werewolf arrives on a cold moon-white flare, fur torn loose, amber embers, dust kicked out at the feet.
- The Vampire comes apart into black shapes over a crimson flare, blood motes and rising red mist.
- Nothing like the mermaid's bubbles, or like each other — the burst tells you which thing you became. Both have quieter reverts, and per-creature server settings.
🐠 Choose Your Companion
- Your companion is no longer always a clownfish — a new Companion category lets you pick the species.
- Clownfish and Blue Tang ship free. Open registry, and MermaidsPremium adds 18 more.
- Change your mind whenever: the old fish swims off and the new one swims in.
⚙️ Your Transformation Toggles Are Yours
- The per-creature switches in Player Settings say whether you're willing to be that creature; your active form says which one you're being. Choosing a form never writes those switches.
- Picking a form whose transformation you've switched off used to look broken — menu confirms, nothing happens. It now tells you why, and leaves the setting alone.
🛠️ For Add-on Authors
- Companion species are an open registry, like tail colors and shimmers —
MermaidUIRegistry.registerCompanion(). A species is an asset, not new Java.
🐞 Fixed — Seven Quiet Failures
- The admin menu's creature settings did nothing until a restart. The worst of them, and the one hiding the rest.
Default-Mermaids-Content and Mermaid-Only-In-Water are folded into the server's race-lock state, and that fold only ran for admin commands — not the menu. Toggling a row on, testing, toggling it off and testing again showed the row move both times and the behavior never change. Now recomputed on save.
- "Allow werewolves" turned mermaids on and off instead. That row wrote the mermaid field, so it appeared to do nothing while quietly changing something else.
- Race-locked players could stop transforming for good. An EL mermaid race or Cultivation Merfolk whose active form ever changed (a potion, or a menu pick) never got it set back — right race, no transformation, across restarts. Now re-asserted.
- Choosing a form could cost you the one you had. While race-locked, picking a creature you could never be still moved your form to it, so a Vampire race trying Mermaid quietly lost their vampire transformation. The race decides now, and the menu says so.
- Your creature vanished a few seconds after you picked it. With the content open, the EL race check stripped the Werewolf and Vampire components off anyone who wasn't that race — 3s after every check, at login and every poll. That's the race lock's job, and the lock wasn't even on.
- A missing component was never repaired. Only pendant holders ever got one, so anyone who came to qualify after login never received it. Now self-heals within a tick.
- Switching form could throw a console error. Two parts of the mod could decide the same component should go; the second one threw
Archetype doesn't contain ComponentType! and abandoned whatever was queued behind it.
