Leveling and Talents
Parent: Companion Guides | Home
Every bonded companion grows to level 30. Each level grants one talent point. Spend those points in the branches that match how you fight, travel, and use the companion. Talents require only their point cost and any prerequisite talents; there are no talent level requirements.
How companions gain experience
Combat awards experience while a companion fights. Some companion families also award passive experience while they are active, so a summoned companion can grow between fights where that family supports it; this is not a universal rule. Nordic Drake instead uses Combat experience and qualified avatar-flight experience, so it does not gain passive summoned-time experience simply for standing summoned.
Full-dragon branches
The branch names can be themed for the species, but their practical jobs stay familiar:
| Branch purpose | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Combat | More damage and stronger offensive pressure. |
| Durability | More health and better resistance to incoming damage. |
| Survival / role utility | Staying power, movement, or the species' special job. |
| Summoner's Pact | Longer summon windows and shorter summon cooldowns. |
The themed Hydra trees make those roles explicit:
Ice Hydra trees
| Tree | Practical purpose |
|---|---|
| Winter's Wrath | Ice Hydra combat pressure and damage. |
| Glacierguard | Ice Hydra health and incoming-damage protection. |
| Broodcaller's Pact | Ice Hydra summon-duration and summon-cooldown improvements. |
Toxic Hydra trees
| Tree | Practical purpose |
|---|---|
| Plaguewing | Toxic Hydra flight: Vigour, boosts, gliding, and climbing. |
| Venomous Onslaught | Toxic Hydra combat pressure and damage. |
| Blightguard | Toxic Hydra health and incoming-damage protection. |
| Broodcaller's Pact | Toxic Hydra summon-duration and summon-cooldown improvements. |
Summon-tree milestones
For Rock Drakes and Nordic Drake, the summon tree is named Summoner's Pact. Ice Hydra and Toxic Hydra use the themed name Broodcaller's Pact for the same four summon milestones:
| Point cost | Benefit |
|---|---|
| 1 | The first summon-duration improvement. |
| 2 | The first cooldown reduction. |
| 3 | A larger summon-duration improvement that builds on the first. |
| 4 | A further cooldown reduction that builds on the earlier one. |
The duration and cooldown improvements stack within the branch. Choose it when you want fewer interruptions between companion sessions rather than a direct damage specialization.
Nordic Drake flight branch
Nordic Drake adds Aerial Mastery alongside its War Drake combat, Wyrmguard durability, and summon options. Its flight talents improve Vigour capacity and recharge, reduce the cost of boosts, soften glide sink, improve boost strength, and make climbing easier. Pair this branch with Mounts and Flight if the Drake is your travel mount.
Miniwyvern branches
Elemental Miniwyverns use three branches:
| Branch | Practical purpose |
|---|---|
| Essence Bond | Strengthens the form's owner-facing elemental passive. |
| Draconic Combat | Improves projectiles, swoops, and attack cadence. |
| Vigor | Improves health, mitigation, movement, and staying power. |
Wild Miniwyverns use Combat and Vigor while they remain Wild. Attuning to Fire, Ice, Lightning, Nature, Toxic, or Void adds that form's Essence Bond branch; see Soul Bond and Attunement.
Next steps
- Compare each form's identity in Miniwyvern Forms.
- Choose a ground or flight role with Mounts and Flight.
