Mounts and Flight
Parent: Companion Guides | Home
HyDragon has two kinds of travel companion: ground-mounted full dragons and full dragons that let you fly as the rider avatar.
Ground mounts
The standard Hydra and every Rock Drake are ground mounts. They carry you across terrain but do not switch into an airborne avatar. Rock Drakes share their boulder attack identity; the Hydra keeps its ice attacks. Use Dragon Command Flute commands to recall a ground mount before a steep climb or a tight cave.
Avatar-flight mounts
| Companion | Flight experience |
|---|---|
| Nordic Drake | Full avatar flight with fire abilities and a dedicated flight talent branch. |
| Winged Toxic Hydra | A separate airborne Toxic Hydra mode with toxic ranged and breath abilities. |
Avatar flight changes your riding view and movement; you are flying as the companion rather than directing a separate wild creature. Summon your dragon, select the Flightmaster's Talisman, then crouch and interact with the dragon to mount.
Flight controls
Nordic Drake and Winged Toxic Hydra share these avatar-flight controls. The mouse buttons and keys below assume default bindings.
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Charge and launch | While mounted on the ground, hold crouch to charge, then release to launch. |
| Flap upward | Left-click (primary action). |
| Airbrake | Right-click (secondary action). |
| Forward boost | Press Q (Ability 1). |
| Dismount | Press F (interact). This also dismounts immediately while airborne. |
Steer with your movement controls and look direction. Glide between flaps and boosts, and watch your Vigour so you have energy for the next climb or escape. Land before dismounting if you want to stay on the ground.
The standard Hydra and Rock Drakes remain ground mounts.
Talent choices for travel
- Nordic Drake — Aerial Mastery: improve Vigour capacity and recharge, boost efficiency and strength, glide control, and climbing.
- Ice Hydra: Winter's Wrath is the combat tree, Glacierguard is the durability tree, and Broodcaller's Pact supplies the summon milestones.
- Winged Toxic Hydra: Plaguewing is the flight tree, Venomous Onslaught is the combat tree, Blightguard is the durability tree, and Broodcaller's Pact supplies the summon milestones.
- Ground mounts: invest in combat, durability, or survival branches instead of flight-specific choices.
