Toxic Hydra
Parent: Dragon Compendium | Home
The Toxic Hydra is the venomous Hydra variant. Its toxic projectiles, poison breath, lingering clouds, and aerial passes make it a strong choice when you want to control space from the ground and the air.
Where to find it
Search Zone 4 volcanic terrain on Dark Green Moss patches. Check the moss itself instead of searching every part of the volcanic zone.
How to obtain it
- Carry a tranquilizer, a Draconic Stone, and enough supplies to stay in the volcanic zone.
- Lower the Toxic Hydra's health and tranquilize it before you begin the capture channel.
- Hold the Draconic Stone's capture action until the channel completes. If the attempt is interrupted, prepare the next opening with the Capturing Dragons guide.
- A successful capture places the bonded Toxic Hydra in your Dragon Command Flute roster.
The Toxic Hydra is an eligible full dragon, so its capture follows the normal tranquilizer-and-stone process. Stronger stones are a useful recommendation for harder hunts, not a hard minimum that blocks every other stone.
Wild attacks
The Toxic Hydra keeps targets moving with several forms of poison pressure:
- Toxic bolts: aimed ranged shots that carry its venomous theme.
- Poison breath: a close aerial pass that covers the approach with poison.
- Poison clouds: lingering hazards that punish anyone who stays in one place.
- Aerial attacks: the wild variant can take the fight above the ground before returning to its ground combat pattern.
Give poison clouds room to expire and watch the Hydra's flight path before committing to a melee attack.
Bonded combat and flight
The bonded variant can use the same toxic bolts, poison breath, and poison-cloud pressure. It also receives the dedicated Winged Toxic Hydra flight experience: select the Flightmaster's Talisman and crouch-interact with your dragon to mount, then hold and release crouch on the ground to launch. This is separate from the standard Hydra, which remains a ground mount.
Leveling and talent identity
Adventure experience lets the Toxic Hydra grow into a damage, durability, or companion-management role. Review the available branches in Leveling and Talents, then spend points around the activity you do most: poison-focused combat, safer aerial passes, or longer summon windows and shorter recalls.
Drops and progression value
Defeating a Toxic Hydra provides venom-themed materials for later capture and crafting work:
| Material | Drop range |
|---|---|
| Draconic Scales | 5–6 |
| plain Draconic Essence | 5–6 |
| Toxic Draconic Essence | 3–4 |
| Earth Draconic Essence | 2–3 |
A Void Draconic Essence is a possible additional drop. Use the Draconic Essences and Scales guide when planning recipes.
