Nordic Drake
Parent: Dragon Compendium | Home
The Nordic Drake is a high-difficulty fire dragon and the roster's full avatar-flight mount. It rewards careful capture preparation and talent choices that support either aerial travel or direct combat.
Where to find it
Search Zone 3 forests on non-snowy soil. If the ground is covered in snow, keep looking for a forest patch with ordinary soil.
How to obtain it
- Bring a tranquilizer and a Draconic Stone suited to a difficult full-dragon hunt.
- Work the Nordic Drake down safely, then tranquilize it before you begin the capture channel.
- Hold the stone's action through the channel. A failed attempt does not make the dragon tame, so plan your supplies and a safe retreat before you try again.
- On success, summon the bonded Nordic Drake from the Dragon Command Flute.
The Nordic Drake has a high capture difficulty. Stronger stones are a sensible recommendation, not a published hard minimum; the full Capturing Dragons guide covers the shared process.
Wild attacks
Expect two fire signatures while you fight it:
- Fireballs: ranged projectiles that pressure you while you reposition.
- Flame breath: a close, sweeping attack during a pass.
Do not stand in front of the Drake while it lines up a breath attack. Use cover and keep room to dodge the fireball launches.
Bonded combat and avatar flight
The bonded Nordic Drake keeps its fireball and flame-breath attacks. It also grants avatar flight, letting you ride as the player instead of steering a separate flying creature. Flight uses a Vigour resource: boost and climb while it is available, then glide and let it recharge before the next long push.
Leveling and talent identity
Spend Nordic Drake talent points around one of four clear identities:
| Branch | Best fit |
|---|---|
| Aerial Mastery | More flight Vigour, better recharge, boosts, gliding, and climbing. |
| War Drake | Stronger outgoing combat pressure with added resilience. |
| Wyrmguard | Health and damage mitigation for safer hunts. |
| Summoner's Pact | Longer summon windows and shorter return cooldowns. |
The Leveling and Talents guide explains how to sequence branch choices as the Drake grows.
Drops and progression value
The Nordic Drake's drops are useful for both capture progression and essence work. Treat each quantity as a range from a successful drop, not as a promise of a specific roll:
| Material | Drop range |
|---|---|
| Draconic Scales | 6–8 |
| plain Draconic Essence | 6–8 |
| Ice Draconic Essence | 4–5 |
| Wind Draconic Essence | 2–3 |
A Void Draconic Essence is a rare additional drop and is not guaranteed.
